It's a known fact that Nippon's version is superior in every area. Madhouse copying the manga panel by panel with hardly any sense of direction was to say the least appalling. The director seemed to only know of speed lines as a transition technique. That's when you know for a fact that the director has zero creativity and/or experience. It's an insult for Togashi when a newer animation of his masterpiece comes in the 21st century and fails to fully capture the intensity of his work. If it weren't for the amazingly choreographed fights and the page composition of the manga, Madhouse would've completely butchered his work since they have no vision to adapt it properly. Hisoka vs Gon would compare to something like Luffy vs Katakuri at best, or Natsu vs [insert other trash] at worst. Add to that, the awful color palette and the over the top soundtracks instead of the thought-provoking ones from Nippon Animation, and you have for yourself an artistic flop disguised as commercial success.
